Daily Time™ Devotional: How to Get Confidence
Have you ever wondered how to get confidence? Where confidence comes from? How to get more boldness? I discovered the secret while studying my Bible one day.

The only time I used to feel comfortable with a mic in my hand was while leading worship. So since I’m a seasoned worship leader, when I first started speaking, I used to joke and ask the crowd if I could just sing my teaching to them instead.
I never quite got used to feeling super confident as a speaker before God led me to start making videos.
It’s going to be ridiculous, and nobody’s going to want to watch it. I can’t do this God!
I really did want to record videos giving an encouraging talk, so I made a practice video on my iPhone. It came out jumbled and stale. I practiced it again. It was a little more relaxed that time, but now I’m fretting about my physical flaws. And my hair. It looked great at the hair salon. But now it looked like a third grader who was…trying…but, yeah. Maybe I could just make an appointment for the hairdresser to fix the choppy mop the day I make myself record the video.
I wondered when I would get past the awkwardness. Then I thought of several others who just hop online with a Facebook live and sparkle as if they do it every day. Sigh…If only I could be so bold.
The Secret to Finding Confidence
Alone in my car, I had a long drive ahead of me one day before arriving back home to the chaos of Littles, homeschooling, and a dinner hour pending. I cranked up the music and worshipped along, remembering God’s goodness all over again. More burned in my heart to share in my video.
I turned down the music, and started talking. I shared what was on my heart in the presence of God. No other humans could hear me, but it flowed. And the other parts that I had practiced fit into the right place in the talk and finally sounded the way they did in my head. The boldness seemed to come out of nowhere, so what was different?
I spent some time in God’s presence first.
Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus. Acts 4:13 NKJV
Confidence comes from being with Jesus.
Peter and John had intimacy with Jesus because they walked with him. This isn’t the same as doing lunch with your girlfriend a couple times a year and chatting every week at church. They spent some definite time with Jesus. Remember they left all and followed him.
So if you lack confidence in your calling, the solution is spending time with Jesus, and He will impart boldness into you.
Have you ever wondered how to get confidence or more boldness? Discover the secret in this Daily Time™ Devotional.Journal Time: Getting Bolder
You’re invited to use the following interactive devotional in your Daily Time with God. Grab your journal and follow the bolded prompts to get started.
Read: Acts 4:1-13
Write the key verse: Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus. Acts 4:13 NKJV
Think about what God has called you to do or something that you would like to do. Write it down.
Spill it: Is there any bit of hesitation? Could it be a lack of confidence? Write down anything that comes to mind.
Circle the word “boldness” in the key verse. Then circle the phrase “had been with Jesus.”
Look at Acts 4:29. What did they pray for? How did God respond (see verse 31)?
Pray: Father God, You are the source of confidence. I see now through Your Word that boldness comes from You. I’m coming before You now and asking for confidence in my calling and boldness in the business of Your Kingdom. May I share the Gospel in such a way that others can see that I’ve spent time in Jesus’ presence. Fill me with Your Spirit. Thank You for a new confidence today in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
Now put on some worship music and spend some time with Jesus!
In what areas would you like to get an increase of confidence?
