Your Chance to Fulfill God’s Plan in the Earth Today

Imagine being one who is instrumental to fulfill God’s plan in the earth today with the same heart from the righteous men and women from the Bible.

A Nativity set is prominently displayed in our home right now. When I pass by it, the people represented there seem as lifeless as the unmoving pieces. But I imagine their hearts come to life.

How did they respond to God when they walked the earth? They were flawed as we were yet used of Him. Their timeless story lives on even now.

God is still accomplishing His plan and purpose through His people today. Do you want to be one of them? Friend, you don’t have to miss out!

Let’s look at the “people from the Nativity” and learn how they turned their hearts in reaction to God’s call for them to carry out His mind-blowing plans. And then apply their wise behavior to our lives.

We Can Respond Like Mary

We can respond like Mary to fulfill God’s plan. The angel Gabriel visited Mary and that short meeting changed the course of history forever. Why? God said it, and she believed it. Mary said, “let it be” (Luke 1:38).

Mary allowed the Holy Spirit to come upon her to do what God wanted done. What if she didn’t believe God’s plan for her? Thank God she did and was obedient! She birthed a big deal!

I look at this and see a spiritual parallel—a “spiritual birthing” that God does through us. First, we need to believe what God is saying He wants to do through us, then be intentional with whom we spend our time.

Mary immediately visited Elizabeth—someone she knew would believe in her. But she only stayed for awhile before going back to Joseph. Don’t be afraid to go back to the ones who may not believe in you at first. God will speak to them soon enough, just like He spoke to Joseph.

We Can Respond Like the Shepherds

We can respond like the shepherds to fulfill God’s plan. The shepherds were probably a very attentive type of men. I would have been lulled to sleep in five minutes out there in the field. But they had to watch for those animals that would come to devour the sheep. God is often speaking; it’s those who are attentive who will not miss it.

The sky was suddenly ablaze with the glory of the Lord. The message the angel of the Lord told them was that the Savior, Christ the Lord was born. As soon as the heavenly host had departed they decided to “go and see” what the Lord had made known to them (Luke 2:15). After they went and quickly found Mary, Joseph, and the baby in the manger, they glorified and praised God for what He was doing (Luke 2:20).

Imagine being instrumental in fulfilling God’s plan in the earth today. Respond with the same righteous heart like the "people from the nativity". #plan #thrive #calling #nativity #mary #joseph #wisemen #shepherds #spiritualgrowth #godsglory

We Can Respond Like Joseph

We can respond like Joseph to fulfill God’s plan. Joseph had to be utterly bewildered—and disappointed—when he learned of Mary’s pregnancy. It probably wasn’t the way he had planned for his life to go! He was going to quietly divorce her and try to move on. But additional news interrupted his life once again when God used an angel to speak to him in a dream. God gave him specific instructions to follow—radical instructions. A new plan!

Joseph replied with immediate obedience in marrying Mary (Matthew 1:24-25), then continued being obedient to God when he moved the family to Egypt and later Galilee in response to the warnings he received in dreams from God (Matthew 2:13-14, 22).

When we first hear God’s instructions, it might seem absolutely crazy. We will probably be inconvenienced. But after we obey, in hindsight, it makes perfect sense.

We Can Respond Like the Magi

We can respond like the Magi to fulfill God’s plan. The wise men went through quite a journey to find Jesus, and what they did when they finally found Him is delightful. They fell down and worshipped Him, and then offered Him gifts (Matthew 2:11). The gifts served a specific purpose:

In addition to the honor and status implied by the value of the gifts of the magi, scholars think that these three were chosen for their special spiritual symbolism about Jesus himself—gold representing his kingship, frankincense a symbol of his priestly role, and myrrh a prefiguring of his death and embalming. Preceding giving the gifts of our time, talent, and treasure to God, we humble ourselves in worship. In essence, that is saying we submit all for His glory.

I love the call to be attentive. We often don’t think of that when it comes to the Christmas story 🙂

    1. That’s true, Nicole. I so desire for God to speak to me, as much as He desires the same. I hope you are hearing lots of good things from Him during this season. Great to see you here again. Merry Christmas! 🙂

Well stated Kelly. It can be easy to get lost in the busyness of the holidays as our minds are swimming with what’s next on our to-do lists. May we quiet our hearts and minds and remember the ultimate meaning of Christmas. Let us respond to God’s leading with a willing heart as we seek to glorify Him. Kelly, I hope you and yours have a Merry Christmas and a blessed holiday season!

    1. Amen and amen! Thanks for your visit and comment and blessings to you. Merry Christmas, Horace! 🙂

    1. I’m glad you were impacted by it, Jill! God blows me away sometimes. It’s all for what He wants and His glory. Thanks for stopping by, friend, and merry Christmas! 🙂

  4. What a blessing to focus on those important players one by one. They were faithful in their follow through no matter what God asked, and I want to be that person here in my little space and time.

Me too, Michele. Thank you for your faithfulness in God’s kingdom. You are a blessing!

  5. My quiet time recently was on “worshipping God with reverence and awe” and I’ve been pondering that thought for the past couple of days, Kelly. So your thoughts here on worshipping God are soaking in deeply and resonating with me, my friend. Thank you for bringing greater life and illumination to the people who worshipped a babe in a manger so long ago!

    1. kellyrbaker says:

I love that thought from your quiet time, Beth! Thanks for sharing that!

  6. Kelly, this was such a refreshing look at a familiar story! Thanks for bringing it to life. As I chase our young children around the house, bake cookies, dig out Christmas lights, and wrap gifts, it’s easy to respond to the Incarnation with a consumerist mindset instead of standing in awe, praising, and following. Thanks for this today!

Thanks, Stacey! Praying He visits you during this time and you step more fully into the plan he has for you!

  7. We miss out when we fail to think deeper about those stories in the Bible with which we’re very familiar or when we fail to realize these were real people with real emotions and struggles. Thanks for taking us deeper into the events surrounding the birth of Christ. Happy December!

Yes, Donna. It can be food for thought to ponder their lives as “real people with real emotions and struggles.” Thanks for reading and commenting, and happy December to you as well!
