As you know, this site is all about growing in the Lord. I want to encourage you today to let God go deep. Something deep inside you may not be something others can see. But God sees. Someone said, “What we don’t allow God to expose in private will be exposed in public.”
Using gardening as an analogy, you might dig some holes and plant some seeds, paying attention to make sure what you’re growing will receive enough water and sunlight. You might do everything right, but still not see the results you want to see. What went wrong?
Under the soft ground where you put that seed is a layer called the hardpan. It’s so hard that unless broken up, the roots cannot break through. Do you let God go deep enough?
God is your husbandman.
You may let Him pull the weeds in your life. That might be like repenting of a sin that He brings your attention to as you go about your day.
You may see Him add some fertilizer. That would be God allowing you to go through some circumstances to show you what’s in you.
You may have all the other necessary ingredients to achieve success. But if you really want to see lasting change in your life, you need to let God go deep enough.
The hardpan is hard. Our heart can be hard. It’s only broken up by brokenness.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart― These, O God, You will not despise. Psalm 51:17 NKJV
The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit. Psalm 34:18 NKJV
So let God go deep. Let Him go to your hardpan. Tell Him you are letting Him open up those hard places and the things that are hard to deal with.
