Refreshing for Your Soul

Life can be full of trials. (Ask a mom with four kids. Just sayin’.) When we go through hard days filled with unexpected troubles and turmoil, they can become wearisome weights if we allow them to be. Sometimes I feel myself sinking into the muck of them, too beat down to fight my way out.

But friends, Jesus is our Shepherd. He calls us to come and be near.

He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. Psalm 23:2 ESV

When we come He is sure to fill and refresh us. And He uses His servants to encourage us to draw from His living water. I’m thankful for my new friend, Sherry Stahl, who does just that!

Sherry Stahl Soul H2O

I found many favorites in her new devotional book, Soul H2O, but I’ll give you a couple of highlights. I love how Sherry encourages in a fresh way when it comes to living in fear versus walking in godly confidence. I have an inspiring new view on this subject now!

In Devotion 39, this is what she says about going through seasons when we feel unsettled:

Frequently, God moves us into ‘hot spots’ and makes us wait for an undetermined amount of time. The old ways are no longer comfortable; they lack fulfillment. We sense that things are about to change, but we don’t know how…or when!…If you’re sensing this in your life, be encouraged; God is up to something good.

I haven’t known Sherry very long, but I love how she will wake up at 4 in the morning to write a word from God. And I love her sense of humor. It made me laugh after I joined her launch team when she said,

So thankful God has connected us! Between the two of us people can stay nourished and refreshed 🙂 Teehee

Every time I soaked up the words in her Soul H2O devotional I felt so peaceful, just as if God had led me beside still waters. Each short devotional begins with a key verse, and then Sherry relates her experiences or simple biblical truths into her message. Following, is a prayer, and the entry ends with section aptly titled “Drawing from the Well.” My fellow writer, Bethany Mcllrath, describes it this way: “Instead of being about big life changes and heavy topics, Soul H2O offers basic life sustenance.” I encourage you to pick up a copy and be refreshed!

  1. This sounds like a great book and I’m glad I read your post today. God has been reminding me of that verse from Psalm 23 this week, and the quote from the devotional encourages me as I’ve just been writing about the challenges of waiting. Visiting from #RaRaLinkUp

    • Don’t you love it when God speaks to you in multiple places on the same subject or verse? He’s so cool like that! I hope you’ll check out Sherry’s book and thanks for stopping by!

    • Lesley,
I’m so glad to hear God is helping you through your time of waiting. When I read your comment it made me think of the first devotion in my new book. It’s called “Due Dates”. Here’s a link to the page about my book on my site. Halfway down you can click to “See Inside”. The book sampler shows the beginning pages of the book, that one devotion and the ending pages of the book. I think God wanted you to see them 🙂 Hope you’re refreshed!

    • Andrew,
I pray you find God’s healing in this time of hurting. My book says it’s a Women’s devotional, but men read my devotions every week. It’s just publishing marketing. If you want to check out a sample of my writing, Here’s a link. Look down to the middle of the page to find the book sampler “Look Inside” Icon.
      Be Refreshed and Renewed,

    • It’s perfect for busy! I have been in a much busier season than I wanted to be in–just with home life and family right now. But I seriously felt refreshed each and every time I picked it up to read! Thanks for visiting, Shannon. Praying you stay nourished and thriving this week!

  2. Great review, Kelly! I love how the Lord uses gifts like SoulH2O differently in each of us- but for the same purpose of drawing us nearer to Him. He is our sustainer. Thanks for the mention too 🙂 Have a great day!

  3. Kelly,
Your words have refreshed my spirit, again and again. I’m glad you like my wacky sense of humor! Thanks so much for writing a review of my book. I am honored to be your very first book review!!!! Make a girl feel special…Ha! Maybe one day I’ll be on your launch team? Keep nourishing the world and drawing us into His presence as you teach us how to have the heart of a worshipper! Looking forward to that “lunch” one day!
    Much love and gratitude,
    ~Sherry Stahl

    • It’s a blessing to be able to do this! I am so happy God connected us! He has called me to write a book, and it’s being worked on off and on as I am able. All in due season. I am very content where I am now. In the meantime, I can help you. 🙂 Can’t wait to meet you in person! Love you!

  4. This sounds like a good devotional book; I’ll have to do some more research. Thanks, Kelly for sharing with Thankful Thursdays.

  5. Love that hope and anticipation of the good God is up to! I was truly in this place not long ago and have gotten in a funk that He is pulling me out of. I was so grateful for your prayers the other day, it was right on time, friend. Thanks for sharing this! Blessings!

    • Thanks, Crystal! I think bloggers are some of the busiest people on earth! The good thing is our reading can help bring balance to the “busy” of blogging. Sherry’s devotional is perfect for that! Glad you stopped by, friend!
