How We Make Amazing Memories with God

looking upHis word is alive, living, breathing, and weaved throughout the fabric of our lives. It’s part of us because of the truths we find in the Bible. Those words of truth become treasures to us while we walk with him.

His words remain in us because of the life-giving transformation they bring to us. That certain verse or passage held us, strengthened us, changed us, purged us, filled us. His promises continually encourage us. The process of all this exchange is his love, His grace, His power making us increase.

We read a familiar verse and the warm memory comes rushing back to us. It’s abiding in Him, and He in us. Our hearts swell with His goodness. It’s the best way to build a relationship…making memories.

It isn’t easy to par the list down because there are so many wonderful verses, but here’s some of my favorites:

  • When I was learning how much joy came from His presence while in worship and while in the Word.

You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Psalm 16:11 NKJV

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. 2 Cor 10:4-5 NKJV

  • When He was doing a work of diligence in my life.

The plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty. Proverbs 21:5a NKJV

In the day when I cried out, You answered me, and made me bold with strength in my soul. Psalm 138:3 NKJV

He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength. Isaiah 40:29 NKJV

  • When I began to seek wisdom.

My son, if you receive my words, and treasure my commands within you, So that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; Yes, if you cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding, If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:1-6 NKJV

  1. Thank you for those scriptures and sharing how they affected you. I am deeply touched by the Psalms and Isaiah. One of my favorites is “You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord, is the Rock eternal” Isaiah 26:3-4 What stability and power in those verses!

  2. One of my favorites is Isaiah 50:4-5 which was the focus of our last women’s retreat: The Lord God hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned. 5 The Lord God hath opened mine ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away back.
Why: Wakening every morning to spend time with him… glorious; opening my ears to hear what the Spirit is saying is expedient. Then I am prepared to speak that word in season when needed.
Thank you for this post. I love it!

  3. Before the holidays with my husband’s family I worked hard to memorize Philippians 4:4-7. It reminded me to “rejoice in the Lord always…Rejoice!” even if i would get frustrated I was to be grateful in the Lord. I was to “let my gentleness be evident to all”…a reminder to be gentle with those who may make gentleness difficult…b/c “the Lord is near” He’s got my back! I didn’t need to be “anxious about anything.” If i did I needed to be thankful first and then “present my request to God.” not complain to my husband. The reward is in verse 7, “The peace of God, which transcends all understanding, ” would guard my heart and mind. Great to have God’s truth to mediate on in difficult circumstances. Thanks Kelly for allowing me to a remember a time when He provided His word right when I needed it!

  4. One of my favorites is Psalm 42:5, 11. “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.” and “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.” In a time of weakness, I realized that I needed the “help of His countenance” (God’s face and character) and then I could walk in the “health of His countenance.” God desires us to seek Him. We need to fill up with Him so we may pour out to others!
