Day 7: Peace in Decisions

From the 40 Days of Daily Bread Series.

footprintsWhen we were kids, my brother and I wanted to go see the Gospel Bill Show even though it was nearly two hours away. My dad was hesitant to take us because of a freezing rain forecast. We tried to convince him that we should go anyway because “he was a good driver” and “God would want us to learn about Him.” Ha! Child manipulation. 😉

My dad told us that we should pray to see if we have a peace about going.  He explained that we would decide to go and then pray for God to show us His will. He had us wait a few moments to see if we felt a peace or troubling in our spirit.

Then we prayed and told God we had decided not to go, and again wait in His presence and observe if we had a peace or not.  Afterward each of us admitted that we didn’t have a peace about going. What a lesson we learned that day!

We’ve been studying the Armor of God: the Helmet of Salvation, the Breastplate of Righteousness, and the Girdle or Belt of Truth.Today we look at the Shoes of Peace, which guards the direction of your feet. First we must put on the Shoes of Peace that comes from salvation, to be completely ready for life. Secondly, know that the enemy will try to lead us out of God’s will and try to torment us with not knowing what decisions to make. We can rely on the Prince of Peace in us.

And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. Ephesians 6:15

If you are not getting peace in your spirit about something, then don’t go in that direction. If you get a peace either way, then God might be saying either way is fine.  If you feel troubled either way, then wait. Don’t move forward until you have confirmations on big decisions.

Daily BreadApply the Word

This section is to help us respond to His promptings. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. James 1:22

  • Shoes of Peace

Pray. Put on the Shoes of Peace. Write and pray the following scripture locations and the declarations after them in your journal. Doing this will help you know the Word.

A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps. Proverbs 16:9 NKJV (The Lord is directing my steps.)

Ponder the path of your feet, And let all your ways be established. Do not turn to the right or the left; Remove your foot from evil. Proverbs 4:26-27 NKJV (My ways are established and on the correct path.)

Direct my steps by Your word, And let no iniquity have dominion over me. Psalm 119:133 NKJV (My steps are directed by the Word.)

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth… John 16:13a KJV (The Spirit of Truth will guide me.)

  • Direction

Write down a specific area that you need God’s guidance. You have just prayed the Word. Sit in His presence and listen. What is He saying to you?

The peace of God helps me in big decisions. [Tweet this]

What decision are you praying about?

Our Daily Bread for tomorrow will be about pleasing God with faith.
