Day 4: The Trap of Voices

From the 40 Days of Daily Bread Series.

trap of voicesVoices need to be discerned to avoid the traps of the enemy.  If the voice does not line up with the Word of God, then it isn’t God. The more you apply the Word to your life, the easier it will be for you to discern the voice. You already know what kind of trap your mouth can get you into!

Remember the Helmet of Salvation guards your whole head:  mind, eyes, ears, mouth. We’ll focus specifically on  what you listen to, and what you speak for today’s post.

Why do you need it?

The enemy lies to you, and will try to dupe you into speaking the opposite of the Word.  Pray that the Lord would set a watch on your ears and mouth.

40 Days of Daily BreadApply the Word

This section is to help us respond to His promptings. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. James 1:22

Pray the following verses and declare what is in parenthesis below it. This is how we use the Helmet of Salvation. Write the scripture locations and the declarations beside them in your journal. Praying, writing, and saying these verses will help you put the Word into your heart.

  • Ears

So that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; Proverbs 2:2 NKJV (I listen to wisdom.)

Like an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold is a wise rebuker to an obedient ear. Proverbs25:12 (I will be attentive and obedient.)

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: John 10:27 (I listen to the voice of the Lord.)

And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers. John 10:5 (I do not follow the voice of the enemy.)

  • Mouth

In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, But he who restrains his lips is wise. Proverbs 10:19 NKJV (I will refrain my mouth.)

The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for lack of wisdom. Proverbs 10:21 NKJV (I will speak the Word to others.)

My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise you with joyful lips: Psalm 63:5 NKJV (I will praise the Lord.)

Eph 4:29  Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. (No corrupt communication will come out of my mouth, but that which is edifying.)

What I heed and speak can become a trap if not guarded with the Helmet of Salvation. [Tweet this]

Question: What have you been listening to or saying that needs to be guarded by the Helmet of Salvation?

Our Daily Bread for tomorrow will be about guarding your heart.
