The Quest

You have probably heard the word quest most used in reference to a medieval romance movie. However, you most likely aren’t going on a quest in a medieval romance and you probably aren’t Indiana Jones searching for the Holy Grail. You are, however, quite possibly a follower of God and have identified the call that He has sent out to all His children. The quest to seek Him.

When You said, “Seek My face,” My heart said to You, “Your face, Lord, I will seek.” Psalm 27:8 NKJV

A quest is a search or pursuit made in order to find or obtain something. Have you ever gone through a season with God where you wanted to really experience Him? Have you ever heard someone else talking with an illuminated face about how they had been connecting with God in a very real way and you desired that for yourself?

Imagine a hungry cheetah that sees dinner off in the distance and chases after it, stopping at nothing until it has captured the prey. What a pursuit to observe! In that same kind of hungry drive, pursue after the Lord. Let your desire to experience Him explode into a decision. Determine to make your every breath and thought focused on Him with a goal of finding Him.

Even in this hot pursuit, we can have the wrong motives. If every single time we come before the Lord to seek Him only because we need something at the moment, our motive is wrong. We are not to seek God only for what we can get from Him (the gifts and blessings). Seek His face, not just His hand. Seek to know His heart, His character. There is nothing more precious.

There may be times when you need to seek Him for help. There will be times when you are finding scriptures to stand on so that you overcome your weaknesses. All of that is seeking God, but most of the time we should just come humbly seeking to know Him. God is looking for it.

The Lord looks down from heaven upon the children of men, To see if there are any who understand, who seek God. Psalm 14:2 NKJV

How will you answer Him? Will you take up the quest?
