Expect Goodness from Sanctification

Expect Goodness from Sanctification.

There is much goodness that comes from sanctification. Some Christians think sanctification is invasive so they don’t embrace it. That’s a problem because the more we look like Jesus, the more the world will see Him!

The other day I was subconsciously seeking validation when suddenly God slid a gigantic stop sign in my face. I saw a quote at the precise moment God wanted me to see it.

My flesh didn’t like it, but my mind and heart had spiraled out of control, and He wanted me to stop it.

My spirit and my flesh are in a tug of war. I get caught in cycles of defeat. I pull my mind into the parking spot marked “Lies.” Or, I sin… Again.

I want to think, I can’t do this. God doesn’t want me to stay in that mindset any more than he wants me to shrug my shoulders and declare, “God’s grace covers it,” and do nothing (Romans 6:1-2).

The struggle is real. (Maybe you can relate?)

During this place of battle He begins to speak to my heart. He invites me to come and know His Word. To live yielded.

What Is Sanctification?

What is sanctification? It’s not as scary as it may sound! 😉 I’m not going to reinvent the wheel; What’s in the Bible shared a post called What is Sanctification and What Does Sanctification Mean to Christians? that thoroughly explains it.

Included is a one-minute clip from one of the What’s in the Bible for kids videos that can be showed to your kids or grandkids when you impart virtues and talk to them about sanctification. We love the What’s in the Bible series and own the whole set. They are a great resource that you might want to check out as well.

5 Surprising Good Truths about Sanctification.

5 Surprising Good Truths about Sanctification

1 – Sanctification brings freedom.

Observe the bolded words:

But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. Romans 6:22 KJV

“If you continue in My word, you really are My disciples. You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32 HCSB

But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does. James 1:25 NASB

2 – Sanctification is a conditional process.

Because God knows what’s best for us, He requires that we keep coming to His Word. Notice the conditional words:

If you continue in My word, you really are My disciples. You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32 HCSB

But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does. James 1:25 NASB

3 – Sanctification is an ongoing work.

God is continually working on our lives whether or not we’re intentional about speaking His Word because that is what He desires.

And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns. Philippians 1:6 NLT

4 – Sanctification is a treasure hunt.

We will discover the treasures of His Word when we search out what God says regarding our specific situations. As we apply the verses we’ve found, we will increase in the knowledge of God, and know Him more.

5 – Sanctification fills our heart with the Word.

When we pray and meditate on His treasure-filled truth regularly, His Word becomes hidden in our heart (Psalm 119:11). When our heart is filled with His Word, we walk in victory. And who doesn’t love victory?

What Is Sanctification?

Grow in Grace

Jesus is coming back for a church that looks like it’s been to the dry cleaners (Eph. 5:26-27), but until then we’re in the process of being sanctified. It’s when He changes us from glory to glory (2 Cor. 3:18), and as a result we grow in grace. His grace is so wonderful!

As we continue to work out our salvation with fear and trembling (Phil. 2:12-13), and be a doer of the Word (Jas. 1:23-25), then we become spiritually mature.

Therefore, dear friends, since we have such promises, let us cleanse ourselves from every impurity of the flesh and spirit, completing our sanctification in the fear of God. 2 Corinthians 7:1 HCSB

Let’s embrace sanctification because the more we are free, the more we can help others!
